What type of support is available for those pupils whose learning needs are severe and complex?
In a very few cases where a child’s complex needs cannot be met by the support already in place at school, it will be necessary for the school and/or parents to consider requesting an Education Health and Care Needs Assessment. The Local Authority will require evidence of the previous action taken and if in rare cases, the child’s needs are considered to be severe and complex, an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) may be issued. This is created alongside the pupil, parents and professionals. It details the specific strategies, support, resources and targets to be put in place for the child, which are reviewed annually.
More information about EHCP's can be found on the EHCP section of the Cambridgeshire County Council Local Offer website.
