Accessibility/Inclusion
Westfield Junior School main building is on two levels with two additional mobiles. There is no disabled access to the first floor. However, all downstairs classrooms, general areas, one mobile and the grounds are suitable for wheelchair access, including two disabled toilets. A disabled parking bay is situated close to the school entrance.
The majority of the staff have received First Aid training, including specific training in diabetes, asthma and nut allergies. Individual Care Plans are in place where required (see Supporting Children with Medical Needs Policy) and meetings between parents and medical professionals are held to ensure that pupils can access the curriculum, possibly with adaptations, including extra-curricular clubs and school trips.
The success of our school depends on the extent to which it serves our community, and people with special educational needs and/or disabilities are an integral part of our community. We believe that all children should have access to a full, broad, balanced and relevant curriculum and that our pupils should be valued for what they can do rather than labelled for what they cannot. Our planning takes account of additional needs through differentiation and allocation of specific resources and/or support staff where appropriate.
