Westfield is 50

Happy 50th Birthday Westfield Junior School

Our School officially on 14th December 1964 and we're after your memories of the last 50 years

On a December afternoon in 1964, the then-named St Ives County Junior School was officially opened as "living testomony to present day conception of education" according to the Hunts Post.

Now, 50 years on, we're looking to celebrate the occassion by collecting as many memories and stories as possible.

Using the benefits of modern technology, we're hoping to gather a wealth of information on what school life has been like over the past 50 years at Westfield.

Whilst many of our current pupils may find it hard to imagine that there was a time without laptops and interactive whiteboards, many people will have fond memories of a very different era of education. We'd love to hear your stories.

The Memory Lane in St Ives facebook group have already dug out an article from the Hunts Post marking our official opening, and our friends at the Norris Museum have various records you can go and see including a copy of the offical opening day programme.

Were you part of the original 1964 intake, or do you know someone who was? If so, we'd love to hear from you and your memories of the school. We'd especially like to hear from anyone that would be willing to be interviewed by one of our current young journalists.

If you have any memories you would like to share, get in touch with us.

You can pop in to the school office if you have photographs or memorabilia from school events that we could copy and hand back to you.

Alternatively, you can email us at office@westfield.cambs.sch.uk with your memories, stories and photos.

If you're a facebook user and you've liked our page, please help to spread our appeal for memories from the past 50 years by sharing this post on your wall.

For those of you who have memories that can fit into 140 characters, then why not tweet a memory with the hashtag #westfieldis50 and @westfieldjunior may retweet you.

If the above paragraph is total gobledegook, then don't panic. You're also more than welcome to use a pen and send any memories or stories to us by post addressed to Westfield Junior School, Ramsey Road, St Ives PE27 5RG.

Thank you for your help in marking this special occasion for St Ives.
