How are SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) needs identified?
A pupil has SEND where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, namely targetted provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age.
Children are continuously assessed and closely monitored in a variety of contexts and information can be obtained from a variety of sources:
* Parents/Carers
* Previous Educational Setting
* Class teacher
* Formal and Informal Assessments
* Analysis of data
* Pupil Progress Meetings
* Book scrutiny
* Educational and Medical Specialists
* Use of Checklists and Descriptors
* Attendance and behaviour data
Special Educational Needs will be considered within 4 broad areas:
*Cognition and Learning
*Communication and Interaction
*Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
*Sensory and/or physical needs
If your child is at Westfield and you have any concerns regarding your child’s learning, please initially make an appointment to speak to the Class teacher, who will then liaise with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) where appropriate.
If you wish to discuss a specific area of Special Educational Need or Disability, then please contact our SENCo Mrs Nicky Oliver via the school office: 01480 375005 or email office@westfield.cambs.sch.uk .
For information on the management of SEND within the school, regarding specific roles and responsibilities, please see the current SEND policy.
